- Claire V12 contributionsFab gardens, underwhelming food, great customer service. The gardens here are excellent. As a Hort, it's always interesting to see gardens in different parts of the UK. Loved the planting here. Visited the Orangery Tearooms for a light bite. To be honest food over priced and underwhelming. However, the customer service was excellent. I was served by Amal, who greeted me immediately I walked in. She was attentive, conscientious and just plain excellent. Amal is a credit to the establishment.Visited February 2024Travelled soloWritten 20 February 2024

The cafe was pretty poor. Scone was heading towards rock cake and the baked potato covered in what seemed to be tuna soup. Staff seemed semi detached. The single unisex loo had no paper. Beautiful spot to sit but the whole experience was a trip back in time and not a good time either. Dog friendly outside though.

We spent almost an hour looking round the gardens. There were some lovely roses and it was quite well tended. We didn't stop for refreshments but they were available with plenty of seats.

We went for afternoon tea yesterday and it was awful. The sandwiches were freezing cold, the crusts left on and thick of butter. The cakes were hard and tasteless, could have bought better ones from the supermarket. There were no windows open, the plates on the cake tier weren’t all China and no atmosphere in the place. Such a shame as we’ve been to the Murder Mystery there and that was great. Couldn’t wait to leave. Wouldn’t take a lot to make this a magical experience. Honestly how difficult is it to make a few decent sandwiches and cakes?

This is not actually a castle but a 3 bedroom house made to look like a castle.
The garden is beautiful and you can have a tour of the house.
It is very interesting and well worth a visit.

Great garden area with a nice playground for kids. We had the chance to visit the castle with a lady that was really interesting and had a lot of information about Whitstable and the area!

Whitstable Castle and grounds is not part of English heritage - I think it is independent.

What is there to do here? Are there formal gardens to walk round? A Kids play area? Picnic area? Entrance fees? a Car Park?
The website has info on how much an afternoon tea it, but not a lot else that would be useful to someone that might visit, but does not want to drive for 2 hours and find out it is only a tea room with a fancy name

There are limited parking space in the grounds, but on the road outside there is plenty of room, There is a play area for children up to 12 - my granddaughters loved it, bt now too old. There is outside seating, but for picnics, I would be tempted to cross the road to Tankerton Slopes - good views - there is another tea room there, all outside seating, I live locally, so I use it as a meeting place for my friends from Maidstone, Wort a 2 hour drive?? No it isn't,
