We visited Grimsthorpe Castle today and were quite bowled over at what it had to offer. My wife and I visited Grimsthorpe Castle on a Monday in August. We had a grand afternoon out. We arrived about 1 in the afternoon, and were told by that the next guided tour was full, but that there were spaces on the one at 2 o'clock. Do NOT go the the antigues and collectables fair at Grimesthorpe Castle, theres only about 40 or at a big push 50 stalls, selling general tat, that is found on every carboot going, and £5 entry charge per person is disgusting for what is actually there. People please DONT fall for it! Its not worth your money. More

A really lovely place, the gardens were lovely and we will go back in the summer and hire bikes. The house was very interesting and the staff were very informative and superb with the five children (aged 6 to 11) that we had with us. I don't often have a serious issue with the opinions expressed in Simon Jenkins excellent books on "England's thousand best churches/houses", but the interior of Grimsthorpe Castle was the exception. The gardens at Grimsthorpe are beautifully kept and well worth a visit. There are occasional events in the park at weekends, and that gives a chance to enter down the main drive!
