Plenty to see and do. We only went for a picnic but hired bikes which was great. Lots of cycle ways on the traffic free estate roads.

With the sun shining and a trip out for my Mum's birthday, what could have been better than a short trip of 25 miles from her house and a wonderful day! Grimsthorpe Castle and gardens are so well maintained, and our guide was extremely knowledgeable, it really made the journey worthwhile, and my Mum hasnt stopped enthusing about the place...

Thank you for your kind words - and great photos. We do our best to try and make a visit here enjoyable, whatever your interests might be. We're closed for the winter now and will reopen on 1st April 2012. There'll be a 'Bunny Hunt' for children and a display of spring flowers in the woodland garden.

We visited Grimsthorpe Castle today and were quite bowled over at what it had to offer. The grounds are extensive, and it is nearing autumn, but even so the rose garden, kitchen garden, topiary and herbaceous border were impressive. We enjoyed strolling around the grounds although did not venture down to the lake. You an hire a bicycle which is...

My wife and I visited Grimsthorpe Castle on a Monday in August. We had a grand afternoon out.
We arrived about 1 in the afternoon, and were told by that the next guided tour was full, but that there were spaces on the one at 2 o'clock. And if we had brought a picnic, we could find plenty of places...

Do NOT go the the antigues and collectables fair at Grimesthorpe Castle, theres only about 40 or at a big push 50 stalls, selling general tat, that is found on every carboot going, and £5 entry charge per person is disgusting for what is actually there.
People please DONT fall for it! Its not worth your money.

A really lovely place, the gardens were lovely and we will go back in the summer and hire bikes. The house was very interesting and the staff were very informative and superb with the five children (aged 6 to 11) that we had with us. Sometimes in similar places staff have just looked suspiciously at the children but not here...

I don't often have a serious issue with the opinions expressed in Simon Jenkins excellent books on "England's thousand best churches/houses", but the interior of Grimsthorpe Castle was the exception. This is the most poorly lit, poorly presented house of its standing we have seen, and we are experienced visitors to "great houses". Everyone understands that excessive light (especially natural)...

I’m sorry that the reviewer didn’t enjoy their visit because of the way the castle is illuminated. We do want to ensure that delicate fabrics are protected from direct sunlight. Electric lighting does create an intimate feeling that many visitors appreciate. The rooms with natural sunlight provide an interesting contrast. This will of course not be to everyone’s taste and...

We have lived in Lincolnshire for 30 years and have always known about Grimsthorpe Castle, but never made time to visit. But that's the usual story when you only live 20 minutes away from anything is it not?! However, on our first visit to Grimsthorpe today, we really regret not having been there before. It's absolutely stunning!!
Our guide around...

The gardens at Grimsthorpe are beautifully kept and well worth a visit. There are occasional events in the park at weekends, and that gives a chance to enter down the main drive!
I enjoy visiting the park, which is well kept and not at all commercialised.
For a guided tour of the house then try and go Monday-Thursday during high...
