First off - don't bother visiting if you're the kind of traveller who needs everything served up on a figurative plate;there will be many, many places you'll enjoy a lot more. For those for whom enjoyment comes from within, you'll love it. History, atmosphere and an unspoiled celtic beauty await...

We wanted to see something different during are trip to England and Holy Island delivered in spades. What a magnificent site: no wonder it's was a hub for Christians in England, it exudes spirituality. The experience starts with the drive onto the island which needs to be planned according to the tides; then the grasssy knolls; then the village; then... More

We've just spent a couple of hours during low and high tide and it was definitely worth going there. Parking price though are a minor rip off, but that was expected. We followed the tracks of the vikings a hiked roughly 6 miles along the coastline at beautiful sunshine! But don't get stuck on the path!!!

Lindisfarne is a beautiful spot and we've visited many times but it is a victim of its own success. When the causeway opens, the place is flooded with daytrippers and the island almost groans under the weight of them (us included). On our last visit we headed straight out past the castle and walked round the back of the island... More

Highly recommend a visit to this magical place. Stoked to the brim with buildings, views, monuments, more views and of course Mead! Best seen on foot, take all day and try and beat the tide too. Some areas require a small fee to see, its well worth the expense. For those of you who are religious be prepared to be... More

Because of the tides we were only able to stay on the island for a few hours, so didn't get to visit the castle. We did spend time at the ruined priory (which is very atmospheric) and enjoyed a great exhibition in the Lindisfarne Centre telling us all about the history of the place and the coming of Christianity, which... Can only get on the island once a day but really worth it. Great views and lots to see. Would go again.
