Young kids will enjoy this experience but given the effort required to drive to Clarence, I am sure they would probably have more fun at the zoo or aquarium. As parents we perhaps had too high expectations. We had booked the tickets as part of the 'Day out with Thomas' experience. We arrived to find out Thomas the Tank engine... More

Mum, dad and two boys 4 and 6. Dad found it interesting however the boys found the train trip boring, as did several other persons on board. Arrived at Clarence and was informed that the steam engine would not be running as fire man was sick, so diesel engine was used. Don't expect to much from this, but it did... More

Be warned: when you buy your ticket insist on being given seat numbers. We were told there were no seat numbers allocated for a "Thomas and Friends" Day with 2 young children. On our return journey, people complained we were in their seats (they didn't have numbered tickets either. We were pushed into a section where the other passengers had... More

Was OK, but not my favourite thing to do on the mountains. Would be better if there was something to do at the bottom.

We enjoyed this outing which provided a good overview of the railway and its history. Be aware that the trains only run at intervals (eg. 1.5 hours for us) and you may have a long wait. Phone to find out running times as they are not alway advertised.

Unfortunately on the day of our visit the steam trains were not running. Instead we were provided with a normal train plus a guided tour. I actually much preferred this. The guide was very knowledgeable and we were shown all around the workshop. I'm not a particular train enthusiast myself, but it was a nice serene journey, informative and interesting.... More

We are sorry we missed th days as Thomas the tank engine nevertheless our kids loved the magic of riding a steam train. Easily accessible on the way to or from the blue mountains when traveling further west.

For the 30 or so dollars you had to pay you don't get a lot out of it. Great for kids as there is a Thomas the Tank Engine steam train you can go on and good for the old as you can hear some history about the railway. If you don't like sights and history and like your money... More

The Zig Zag Railway epitomises the ingenious way those engineers of the Victorian era went about solving problems. Great fun for all ages!
