About
A National Treasure in downtown Oklahoma City. The American Banjo Museum contains over 300 banjos on display and is the only museum of its type dedicated to preserving and promoting the music and heritage of America's native musical instrument - the banjo. An interpretive exhibit tells the evolution of the banjo from its humble roots in American slavery, to bluegrass, to folk and world music.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The banjos are amazing and they have some you can actually play. Several of the banjos are from Steve Martin and Earl Scruggs.

Even if you’re not a banjo fan this is worth the stop.
If your ear brick town this is worth a quick stop. You learn the history of the instrument and view the exquisitely beautiful works of art. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable.
Go around lunch or dinner and eat at the brick town brewery. Great food. The pulled pork sandwich is worth the trip. I’ve eaten there twice this trip

I have played 5 string banjo for almost 60 years. People with any interest in banjos should surely
Visit. For me, the highlight was the banjos on display, many magnificent. And the museum provides an introduction to the instrument. Some of the choices made, however, are dubious. So, the more you know and love about banjos, the greater any likely reservations. But see for yourself. Go!

We came here because it was within walking distance of our hotel and we had a bit of extra time on a Saturday. You may be like us with a very specific idea of the banjo and the culture around it (stereotypes really). This museum does an excellent job of expanding that idea tremendously and providing (needed) background on the instrument to give a better appreciation of its role in the U.S. As you would expect, the banjo collection is extensive and does an amazing job of showing the banjos as true pieces of art and craftsmanship. We highly recommend this museum while you are in Bricktown.

This was not my interest, but I went so my friend did not have to go alone. There are probably thousands of banjos from quite old to new. Some had backs, others didn't. There was an area to actually play - and learn to play.

I took our senior adult Sunday school class there today. They did a group presentation and then a self guided tour. It’s really amazing the banjos on display. You don’t have to be a musician to enjoy. The highlight was a concert and comedy routine by Lucas Ross upstairs. Don’t miss his act! Call ahead and find out when he is performing. Old building in brick town on the outside, but thoroughly modern inside.

I first visited the American Banjo Museum when it was located in Guthrie, Oklahoma. It was really good then. It was then moved to Bricktown in Oklahoma City. I had dinner at the Bricktown Brewery yesterday, and the move from Guthrie to OKC put the "new" location just a few "doors" away from each other. I am truly glad I ventured into their current location yesterday. The move to the new location was truly positive. Nothing against Guthrie (the original State Capitol of Oklahoma fyi), but the current location is great and truly in a major tourist area of OKC. The current location is beautiful and extremely well laid out. I loved everything about my visit. Personally, I have worked in the music business my entire life, and the exhibits definitely highlight the best of the best in banjo pickin.' I have had the privilege of knowing and working with many of the great banjo players who are represented at the museum. The staff was great, friendly. and extremely knowledgeable. I was impressed. The American Banjo Museum in Bricktown is definitely worth visiting!

We arrived late in the afternoon and had the place to ourselves. The staff couldn't have been nicer and chatted us with, answered our questions, and let us wander around at our own pace. A great hour in Bricktown.

This museum was a delight; I was in the area and curious how there could be enough banjo paraphernalia to fill a museum and I was pleasantly surprised! Really respectful exhibit on the origins and ultimate appropriation of banjo music, and SO MANY BANJOS. Each different section had a different banjo tune piped in, so when sections overlapped the sound became a bit much, but overall this museum was really great.

I went to this out of sheer curiosity, and I'm so glad that I did! The museum is fun and interesting! As someone with little to no interest in banjos, I walked away with a real appreciation.
