What a lovely, quiet refuge in the city. I've been to the best gardens of Japan, and this ranks up there with them. Go anytime of year; whenever you go it will be the perfect place to be. Easy walk from the parking; have seen 80-year-olds do it with ease. Or be a lazy American and take the shuttle. more

A very soothing group of gardens with beautiful symbols of the Shinto Japanese culture is the way,I would describe this garden.I saw symbols of the Japanese terrain-sand with ripples(sea),rocks that indicate mountains,and attractive waterfalls.I saw some fine Ikebono floral works in their pavillion building.Another fine site in verdant Portland. more

The gardens are beautiful and the guided tour fantastic. However, the staff was rude and clueless. The shuttle bus did not run. This left about 20 elderly people waiting for over 30 minutes not realizing it was not coming. The staff did not seem to think it was important to leave a note.
