Although not easily accessible by public transportation, this former home of newspaper publisher, Pittock is definitely worth visiting. It has a very special marble staircase, fine paintings by Thomas Hill and Worthington Whittredge, and fine views of verdant Portland from its windows. We visited the mansion during Christmas 2001. It was beautifully decorated and the staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. The grounds are a treat as well.
