You will inevitably spend time here on your visit to Portland, and there is a lot to like. Plus, Powell's bookstore is technically in the Pearl district! I would go more for the shopping and coffeehouses/teahouses, less for the restaurants. The Pearl is as close as Portland comes to glamor, but a lot of the restaurants are overpriced, and trade... The Pearl is a part of downtown Portland that encompasses a number of interesting shops and also includes the famous Powell's City of Books- perhaps one of the best bookstores in the US. They sell both new and used books and have a great little coffee shop where you can browse your books and have coffee. Nearby is the Pearl... More

Walking around was delightful. Old architecture, Powell's books, breweries, great restaurants, nice public art, little parks.

There's a bunch of little places to check out and discover and the restaurants are plentiful and very nice (spendy). If you're checking out the city or are a 30-something looking for a fun night out, the Pearl's the place.

The Pearl offers a lot of variety in a very walkable area. There is every type of food you can imagine and the greatest boutique shopping. There is always something going on in the Pearl and i would mark this as a tourist stop for sure.

Try RIFFLE, a new restaurant that just opened in May 2012. Wonderful bar with sophisticated specialty drinks and a fresh seafood menu daily

It seems weird to review a neighbourhood, but oh welp. This is a very walkable area with great character. Cool shops, good places to eat. I want to live there.
