The word awesome gets a little overused these days...Stargazing at Cherry Springs will leave you in awe of our universe. Everyone living in or near a city should run away for a weekend to experience this amazing "dark place."
Cherry Springs isn't much for amenities or resources, (no WalMart for at least an hour and no fast food nearby) ....

I grabbed my two sons ages 9 and 14 plus another 14 yr old boy and made the drive from Reston VA to the campground with 10 minutes of planning/packing. Took about 6 hrs or more. Only took a tent, sleeping bags and folding chairs.
The highway divides the campground, the eastern part has all the shelters and nicer toilets....

We visited this state park during the peak of the Perseid meteor shower in August. We were travelling from southern PA, almost a 4 hour drive, and it was well worth it indeed. The night sky was so amazingly clear, and it's the first time I've seen the Milky Way !!
Definitely a must for astronomers and nature lovers alike...
