This historic burial ground was founded in 1845, but there are earlier burials, including those of American Revolutionary soldiers. Also found there are the graves of many notable Harrisburg families and Pennsylvania politicians, including Simon Cameron, Lincoln's Secretary of War, and a number of Pennsylvania governors and representatives to the U.S. Congress. People look for different things in a cemetery. We like a nice setting, but we also like sculpture like tomb markers and decorative mausoleums. We found this to be much more of a head stone only area. It is fenced in, so check hours. It closed at 4PM on weekdays. more

This cemetary is one of the most beautiful ones I've seen. Bonaventure in Savannah has nothing on this one. Although it is interesting to look at the various headstones, you would also appreciate it for the gardening. The trees are gorgeous and the place as a whole has a very serene feeling. more
