On the south side of the Cotswolds and the M4 there is this wonderful small village. The day did help as it was warm, sunny and bright. The village consists of 2 streets, a steam, a church with graveyard and a wonderful manor house/hotel. If you take the cars away you could have traveled back in time to the 14th... More

We had an afternoon in Castle Combe on a nice sunny day and found it to be just as we thought. Very nice.

I took my wife to visit Castle Combe as part of a treat for her birthday. Lovely little village, very pretty. But walking along the narrow main road pavement, going past the window of one of the cottages, my wife happened to innocently glance in and got a load of obscene abuse hurled at her from the residents inside, which... We expected a village just like as "Les plus beaux villages" in France from the epithet 'the Prettiest Village in England' and good reputation in Tripadvisor. Although each old-fashioned house was nice in its own way, they were located along a main road only in the range of two minute walk. Except for a church and graveyard, we cannot enter... More

Coming from oversees, there is hardly a better place to get a feel for what could easily be the most beautiful village in England. It is very smallm has no explicit attraction other than its still beauty and calm. What was done very cleverly, is that there are hardly any cars in the streets, adding to the visual experience. We... More

Famous a being the location for the filming of Doctor Doolittle and other films. Nearby is the motor racing circuit, Manor Hotel and golf course. Some lovely pubs can also be found in the surrounding villages. Handy for Chippenham, Bath and Bristol

We had always heard of Castle Combe and its reputation for being one of the most picturesque villages in England, but until recently hadn't seen it for ourselves. We're so glad we did! Just to stoll through the village, visit the church and cemetery, and have tea in the local pub...a perfect afternoon!
