This is a lovely local experience. The sunset boat cruise up the Brunswick River starts at 5pm and ends at 7pm, you go up river to Mullumbimby. The boat is called M.V Jasmine, it is a cute little ferry type boat, slow and quiet, it cruises up the Brunswick river departing from the marina, and along the way you see electric blue kingfishers, local eagles, stingray, lots of fish, patches of Gondwana rainforest. The captain is a local who has been here for over 30 years and has a degree in environmental science, so he shares both his enthusiasm for and knowledge of the natural surroundings.
They serve drinks and snacks, the snacks are surprisingly healthy (grape vine leaves / dolmades, hummus, rice cakes, crudite carrot and celery, nuts, olive bread, and of course potato chips, various cheeses). It is a very pleasant, relaxed way to see the river and learn about the local nature.
We enjoyed this tour so much, we went in October for my husband's birthday, then returned a few weeks later with our 4yo, knowing she would also enjoy it. It was lovely both times. I would happily take out of town friends and family on this boat cruise again.
Everyone involved in the business is professional, courteous, competent. The guided quality of the tour is done perfectly - not extraneous talking, everything you hear is interesting, and there's plenty of breathing space between the talking to just enjoy the scenery. It's a well thought out and well executed experience and a special local Brunswick Heads experience.
