This was a really worthwhile visit. You're guided by a docent in period dress through the home of a Revolutionary War Doctor and friend of President Washington. The home is a beautiful Georgian which was going to be torn down and turned into an incinerator and trash dump until concerned citizens fought to preserve this gem of Colonial history. We... More

Thank you very much for your kind words about our historic site! We appreciate your feedback regarding your recent visit. Rock Ford Plantation does advertise throughout the County with the PA Dutch Visitors Bureau, FIG magazine, Lancaster Newspapers, and other publications as well as "rack cards" in many area hotels and tourist destinations. However, we still hear from many people... More

This Revolutionary War period home is a great tour, and the grounds are wonderful. Very well done and maintained, this is a great place to soak up some history.

This place looks exactly like it would have 200 years ago. Our guide was friendly and knowledgable. Extra plus was the wedding taking place on the porch as we were touring.

Tucked away, this is an interesting setting and building. Love the architecture & my husband knows all the history here. Nice place for photos, sometimes you can catch the nearby deer coming in to get food. Great location for a wedding reception or reunion, or photos. Please donate to them so they can keep up this rare find when you... More

I guess I should really say "Twelfth Night" tour, since people in Edward Hand's time (1795) would have celebrated the holidays in twelve nights. Loved the costumed tour guides, stationed in each room, who had plenty of time for us. The singing and dancing in the main hall were a joy to hear and watch, and the house felt wonderfully... More

Our family visited the plantation for the candlelit Yuletide tour shortly after Christmas. The mansion was beautifully decorated, and the guides very knowledgeable and friendly. Originally, I was worried my 8-year old daughter might be bored, but the guides knew how to maintain her interest throughout the tour and even let her try out some of the children's toys. My... More

The property was really lovely and the tour was very informative. I felt it was worth the cost and the tour guide truly gave us a lot of information about the owner as well as life during that time. I think the little ones might get a little 'antsy' at the length of the tour though I imagine the guide... More

They hosted a paranormal group. Suppossed ghosts roam the halls. In the middle of a fantastic park. You can make a whole day out of it.

My friend and I have visited Lancaster several times over the years. I'm so sorry we hadn't hit this place sooner. We were the first and only ones there so we pretty much had a private tour. Our tour guide was wonderful! She took her time on the tour and answered any questions we might have. The house itself is... More

We visited Rock Ford Plantation on July 28th, 2011. I have been to Lancaster several times but had never visited Rock Ford. It was the home of General Edward Hand. He was George Washington's adjutant general (more or less his chief of staff). The home was built around 1794. It is one of the very best kept 18th century homes... More
