One of a kind look into nation's historical background and role of western PA in the foundation of our country. Well staffed and maintained. A national treasure

I visited here back in 8th grade -- more than 50 years ago, but when we moved back to Somerset County, I wanted to take my history-buff husband. We both were blown away by the beautiful "new" museum, and the tiny fort was sobering. Gosh, Washington was there, a VERY young man with a huge responsibility. Start of the French... More

Beautiful park that is rich in history. You really get a feel for what the soldiers endured here.

Fort Necessity is not only very educational, but it is also a very peaceful place to walk and enjoy nature. The location offers many other attractions as well, so it is well worth a trip to the beautiful mountains.

This is where the opening salvos of the French and Indian War happened. It's a great place to learn about that war and all that followed.

Small, but interesting National Park. Interest lies primarily in the early experiences of Geo. Washington when this was the frontier. Worth a visit if in the area to see Fallingwater etc.

We were camping in the area and white water rafting. Fort Necessity Battlefield was alot of fun. The weekend they went they were having reenactment and my boys loved watching them shoot the guns and cannons. Museum was very nice and ask about the junior ranger booklet when you get there my kids all really love doing these. Great way... More

I visited the fort with my 8 year old son. When arriving, we were greeted by a surprisingly nice visitor center. Having been to some larger forts, my son immediately wanted to skip the displays and see the fort. His comment on the fort pretty much sums it up. "That's not a very big fort, dad." Honestly, the British troops... More

I visited the Fort Necessity National Battlefield while my wife was in Pittsburgh on business. I really enjoyed my time. The museum was extremely nice as I've come to expect from National Parks. I not only learned about the battle itself but also the first national road. Very well done. There are many trails to hike that I found extremely... More
