We have been going to Beaufort for years, but some of our favorite family memories are on Hunting Island! Our son caught his first fish ever with his Papa there. We've had lovely walks on the beach collecting so many sand dollars along the way. The water is warm and the waves are great for body surfing!

We visited while we were staying Beaufort--it's an easy 20 minute drive outside of downtown. We started with the Marsh Boardwalk, which is a series of boardwalks connecting little islands stretching out into the marsh. We saw lots of fiddler crabs and a couple lizards, and it was a pretty cool set up. After that, we decided to visit the... More

We visited Hunting Island State Park while touring around the Carolinas in May. The huge long sandy beaches can look a bit wild as they are strewn with fallen trees but when the tide goes out you have a superb beach were you can always find a gorgeous spot to lap up the sun.

This island is beautiful. The beach was great, the trails are beautiful - saw deer and raccoons and lots of lizards and the lighthouse has an awesome view. However, it is $5 per person to get in no matter what time of day. We went at 6pm to check it out for a return visit the next day. The park... More

I liked Hunting Island State Park much better before they re-did the beach! Now it's confusing and if you're traveling in a convoy, you had better stay tail light to tail light or you will lose one another. It's for the deers!

Palmetto forest meets barrier island beach without a high rise (save the lighthouse) in view. There are three environments, each with miles of walking trails, to enjoy: the beach, the forest, and the marsh. Trails range in size and difficulty. Lighthouse is a must. Biking and kayaking are also options. A fishing pier. Fees are nominal. Our visit was during... More
