Beautifully restored theater offers an intimate sense of entertainment over the years. Theater troupe provides year-round, first class plays and musicals, all with a enviable talent level. Charlestonians Thomas Gibson and Stephen Colbert got their start here! Well worth a visit and an evening play.

I have seen plays, musical performances and star acts at the Dock Street and would pick it as a venue over all others. It's absolutely beautiful.

Hailing from NY, I have attended Broadway shows at many of NYC's historic theaters. Now that I am a Charleston resident, however, I have to say that I prefer the Dock Street Theater to all of them. It is gorgeous inside and out, and the perfect place to watch a play, musical, or concert (especially the Spoleto Chamber Music series).... More

Seating less the 500 people gives you an intimate setting for whatever you are there for. Leave the binoculars at home, you won't need them. Concerts, plays etc., no movies at this theater. Located in an historic building in the heart of downtown. Enjoy a show and a meal at a local restaurant for a nice evening.

It's a nicer theater to look at. Strangely, it's not on Dock St. Well, there isn't a Dock St. any more. It's on Church St. It's been refurbished to be "period". Frankly, I find the seating uncomfortable. But then I've only been downstairs. It might be more comfortable upstairs. Downstairs the rows of seats are separated by what reminds me... More

We enjoyed teh Wiz here last week - the production was very well done! The recently completed renovation was worth the money spent. Balcony seats are the best!

This theater has been restored but while doing so they put in the original (wood) chairs. Don't know how comfortable they would be to sit on during a long performance.

We enjoyed the production, the seats are a bit close to one another but sight lines were good and only once or twice did I miss a line soundwise. A great experience and we ll be back.

This is a good venue for Charleston Stage, for which we buy season tickets. I preferred the Sotille because it's more modern and the seats are more comfortable, but the Dock Street is a classic. Sometime the AC makes it too cold, so take a sweater.
