This has to be one of the dirtiest, worn out places I have ever seen. I tried 3 of the restrooms here. each one was dirtier then the first. As a female, I require a little cleanliness in a restroom- not ones with the toiletpaper rolling around on the ground and God knows what in and around the toilets. Needless... More

I was on vacation in the Carolinas two weeks ago, and visited several times. This is simply the best tourist complex/rest stop in the country. What started as a beer stand in 1949 has grown into a 135 acre complex of 12 shops, 4 restaurants, a motel, RV park, and numerous attractions. I'm not sure what the other reviewers saw,... More

We were on a 9 hour drive to Charleston, SC and wanted to make the drive more fun by stopping somewhere interesting. We settled on South of the Border -- without too much thought or planning. We showed up around noon on a Saturday and parked at one of the restaurants -- the diner. Upon walking in, no one greeted... More

I've passed this place a few times but never stopped. We were on our way back from Florida and the family wanted to find out what the deal was. The deal is...it sucks. It a gas station, motel, restrooms, fireworks store, leather shop, variety store, etc etc. Its dirty and worn out and dated and ugly. I like kitchey (?)... More

The last time I was here, gave this a very bad review. Against my better judgement, we stopped here again, thinking maybe the place deserved a second look. If anything, it's gotten worse, if that is possible. The gas in overpriced. The restrooms are beyond disgusting. Sadly it's the only place to stop in 50 miles. That's the only reason... More

From shopping to fun for the kids, this is the embodiment of old school rest areas! So "cheesy" that you must stop. Attractions have a fee but it's mostly fun to just walk around for a bit, do some resting, take some pictures and buy the obligatory bumper sticker. Stop at night for the full glory of the neon.

it is an old time roadside amusement area...harking back to the post war era, There is a section with rides for kids but most of the, now, 135 acrea site is made up of eateries, fireworks store, gift shops, kitchy statues, sombrero viewing tower, signs, signs, signs, motels, reptile land, etc. its the way things used to be. it is... Pedro is stuck in the early sixties and needs to upgrade the place. Bathrooms are grungy and show decades of use, yet they have an attendant that expects tips! Are you kidding me?!? The best this place has to offer are the lights at night as you drive past at 70 mph.

Made my husband stop on the way to Florida. It is so dated, tacky, quirky, almost embarassing to say we stopped...but, I loved it! Every where we walked around was super clean and very organized. It would be fun place to stop if you have kids. Let them run around a bit before getting back into the car. We didn't... More

Cheesy fun:) It's basically souvenir shops and a place to stretch your legs. The kids liked it.
