My 6-year-old son is going through his train phase. So when we drove through Chattanooga on a recent road trip, we decided to give the Incline a ride. I've seen the signs for the train since I was a kid so curiosity got the best of me. We parked at the St. Elmo station at the bottom of the mountain.... more

We parked at the bottom ( didn´t have to pay ) and rode up to the top. The ride was nice, great views and in general had a good time. The problem is that once you get to the top there is really not much to do. So we walked around and just rode back down. more

Having paid app. $42.00 for a family of of four ( children aged 9 + 5 ) we took the railway. The views were awesome! However when you get to the top you find that you are nowhere near the attractions such as Ruby Falls and Rock City, all you find is a tacky gift shop and residential area. Very... more

GETTING THERE and GETTING IN: Park at the BOTTOM and ride up. Parking at the bottom is free. If you park at the top, you have to pay the meters. The meters will not accept more than a couple hours worth of coins. I've read some complaints that the 2-hour meters don't last a full 2 hours. If you're going... more

The view is absolutely breath taking....the shops are really incredible. Me and my fiance went on the weekend on the fourth of July of 2008....it is the first time he has ever been, and a first time for me as well. We had an absolutely wonderful time, the scenery is just great. The prices are not outragous...no more so than... more

Based on some of the reviews, I fully intended to dislike the Incline Railway. The only reason I chose to go was that, well, I was in Chattanooga, and it is part of the three-ticket package you can get for Rock City, Ruby Falls, and the Incline Railway. I absolutely loved the Incline Railway! We arrived around 6 pm, and... more

We purchased the Incline Railroad/Rock City/Ruby Falls combination tickets on the Lookout Mountain website, thinking it would save time. The Incline Railroad was our first stop on the trifecta. Here's a rundown of how the ticketing system works: 1: Buy Internet tickets, arrive at St. Elmo Station, park for free. 2. Directed to gift shop by harried-looking attendant standing at... more

This was a fun adventure up and down Lookout Mountain. I don't think that a lot of people understand the significance of this particular train ride. Which is that the 72% grade of the track makes the Incline Railway the steepest passenger railway in the world! At the top of the Incline Railway is the highest observation deck on Lookout... more

Ummm, I am not sure what every one else was expecting but we had the best time on the incline. I found the history and the way that it worked very interesting and the thrill of the steep incline towards the top was exciting! We went on March 1st of this year (2008) and there were really no lines at... more

The Incline Railway was okay. When we got there to pay the "overpriced" entry to the railway the machine wasn't working right there is not a booth that you can go to or a ticket counter. Its a machine that you put your money in or credit card and its shoots you out a ticket. The machines barely work and... more
