and I was not disappointed. I was on a journey of his last battles during the Civil War before he was captured and transported to Andersonville Prison in Ga, where our journey ended. About 3 blocks from the top of the incline railway in Chattanooga is Point Park, is an extension of the Chickamauga National Battlefield Park. Trying not to repeat what has already been said, but this may be the best bargain and best kept secret in Chattanooga! We were lucky and found a clear day for our first visit there, and the views easily surpass those of Rock City and Ruby Falls. I've been to Point Park several times. Unless it is bad weather, the view will never disappoint. Don't think you have to be a Civil War buff to enjoy. It's a a great walk just to take in the scenery overlooking Chattanooga and the Tennessee River. The view of the Civil War artillery on the rocky crags of the mountain... more

For one dollar you can see some of the most beautiful views in Chattanooga. There are cannon replicas and large monuments, too. If you want to get in for free, hike up to the park from Craven's House (a historic house on government property that's deep in Civil War history). nice short hikes to be had and nice views. the only drawback is the park needs some tlc in the walkways and museum on the trail . if they did that i would rate it to the top. more
