This was my second trip to Carnton; we came to a wedding there previously. There is a new visitor center since our previous trip, and it's very nice, with restrooms and a gift shop. The tour was good, and although the guide was knowledgeable, she talked a little too fast, .but we learned a lot about the McGavock family, and... More

My husband and I are from NH and visited TN and took the tour on 5/21/12. I was familar with the story of the Carnton Plantation from reading "The Widow of the South" The tour was truly amazing. Our tour guide - I'm sorry I can not rememebr her name was very infomative and did a wonderful tour. She kept... More

This is a must see Plantation. This is where the soldiers that were wounded were taken care of. We heard stories about the young lady that opened their home to these soldiers and personally attended to them during their time of need. We also saw the bloodstains on the floor and where the doctors stood for days working on the... More

I was already familiar with some of the McGavock history from reading The Widow of The South. The docents who take you on the tour of the house are very passionate and really make the history come to life. Hour long tour was very worth it,

This was my third time touring Carnton and I learn something new every time. I definitely recommend touring the Carnton Plantation along with the Lotz House and Carter House. The Lotz and Carter houses are just across the street and Carnton is short drive away. You can purchase tickets to all three at a reduced rate. As a Civil War... More

Touring this home was the reason we went to Franklin. Surprisingly, it was my least favorite of the 3 houses that are part of the value admission ticket. The guy at the gift shop when we first got there was kind of rude and made us feel like an unwanted tourist instead of a welcomed guest. The guy who gave... More

The tour brings the Battle of Franklin and the aftermath alive. It is hard to imagine what went on during and after the battle at the plantation.

The tour of the manor house took about an hour, and the guide was informative and engaging. Maybe a little bit pricey for the time we spent, but maintaining history has a price.

This house was at the confederate side of the Franklin Civil war battle and served as a hospital for the confederate army complete still with blood stains in the floor from the surgeries. Mrs. McGavock(mistress of the house) helped take care of the wounded many of whom stayed for several weeks.
