The Carnton House is a tragic episode in the history of the Civil War. This is not the most majestic of the Old South's mansions, but it's story contains a testament to how people, even the rich, had to bear the brunt of a brutal war. I read the other reviews about how tour guides had ruined their tours. I... more

Florida visitor hit the nail on the head - too much goofing around about "eeww, there's blood on the floor" and "this is sooo creepy" - from the TOUR GUIDE yet. They don't seem to understand that the inside of the structure is as much a 'cemetery' as the outside. VERY disappointing. Go to Carter House down the street -... more

As a person that used to live in Nashville, it has been a true joy to share in the past of the battles that went on there. I was a mere teenager when I first visited the Carnton Plantation, and ever since then I have been hooked. Its thick history keeps my imagination racing with all the feelings that took... more

Carton Plantation is a fascinating place, with the house and several outbuildings,as well as a large cemetery . The house is still undergoing restoration. During the Battle of Franklin in the Civil War, Carnton Plantation was used as a field hospital for the Confederates. Many soldiers died there, including 4 generals. In some rooms, you can still see the blood-stained floors where the men were operated on. In addition to the Civil War connection, Carnton is also interesting as a plantation house. The tour... more
