It is pretty interesting, but I was expecting a little bit more.

My husband is a paleontologist and local friends were looking for entertainment for us. We spent an afternoon here. It is the largest Miocene deposit found to date, I believe, in the eastern US. Children love it. The excavation continues after being discovered in road construction in 2000. Ancient animals abound and many more will be identified. What a boon... More

I visited the Fossil Site, and was so impressed, I volunteered there in the lab while I was looking for a job. The site was discovered accidentally by a road construction crew. Tapir after tapir emerged, and now there are more tapir bones than anything else. The museum has an introductory film to help interpret the exhibits. There are interactive... More

This is one of the best fossil finds of its kind in the entire world and was discovered by accident as they were widening the road. Good facility with East TN State Univ oversight.

What a great find where I live. Building a highway led to the discovery of these fossils and they have just barely touched the surface. New discoveries of creatures that walked this area 3 to 4 million years ago. The tour is excellent as well as all the exhibits.

You can get a guided tour of the dig site with opportunity to ask questions, and spend time in-doors looking at the displays and exhibits. Younger children may lose interest on the tour, but the interactive exhibits will keep them interested for sure.

Ongoing explorations. My grandchildren were so excited to see a "dig" in progress

For the scientists at heart this is a great small museum. Especially on the days when they have activities for kids. On the day we went they were making plaster casts of fossils which my 9 year old loved. He's already said he would like to go back and make another one.
