UTK is very ugly. Sidewalks are not maintained and the commerce near the university is poor. The Fort Sanders area just north of the main campus has an ongoing homeless problem (improving though). The housing in that area is slowly being upgraded, but most of the houses were quickly build in the 1982 World's Fair with little thought of the... more

I'm also an alum of UT (I have a B.A. and a graduate degree, both from UT). The UT campus is okay. I wouldn't go so far as to call it beautiful, but it's not bad, either. The campus is certainly getting prettier, albeit at a slow pace. Overall, if you're close by, the UT campus is definitely worth seeing.... more

The University of Tennessee is a very good public university in a beautiful setting. The heart of the campus is "The Hill," on which the oldest campus buildings (including campus landmark Ayres Hall) are located. The entire university is commonly referred to as "The Hill."
