The main attraction on the island, Dun Aengus is an old fort ruin that is literally falling into the sea as the west side of the island erodes. Very cool place to visit, but be careful as you can literally walk to the edge of the island and look down at the Atlantic! more

First you go through a visitor's center with some informational signs. Then it's a bit of a hike up to the fort (no bikes, not that you could manage that anyway!). Once you are up there, there are no signs or staff to provide information. On one hand, it is nice to see it undisturbed by signs, but on the... more

When I went to this site in November 1996, my friend and I stayed overnight at a small hostel at the other side of town. The hostel was in the middle of a barren field filled with rocks and turnips. To reach the Fort, we walked down a steep, rough road of rocks and dirt to the ferry dock, then walked... more

To be fair, I ended up at Dun Aengus on a cold, windy, rainy day. The fort itself was interesting, but it was so wet and cold that I didn't want to spend too much time up there. On a nicer day, the walk up and back would have been much more pleasant, and the view would have been better.... more

The site is exactly as other people described it! Very interesting itself, and fantastic views. What really impressed me is there is no OPW staff around to supervise the place. No rails or something at the edge of the cliffs, and large groups making fun exactly there. An accident may occur at anytime. Whoever may damage the monument eg writing something... more

We also rented bikes at the dock. The fort was our destination after stopping along the way to see the other sites on the island. The fort is a wonder atop the sheer limestone cliffs. It is amazing that these walls are all dry stacked stones. The bike ride is alos very easy. Others took the Poney and trap. more

All the guidebooks say this is a can't miss sight, but to be honest, after looking at pictures I wasn't sure what all the fuss was about. After we visited, we realized it is way more spectacular in person. Dun Aonghasa is impressive on so many levels. The size and quality of the construction and state of preservation for a... more

We rented bikes when we arrived at the ferry dock and rode out to Dun Aengus. The ride along the main road in wonderful. When you arrive at Dun Aengus you park you bike and walk up the hill to the fort. The views are fantastic and the fort itself is amazing. There is a small interpretive centre at the... more
