About
The Exmoor pony is one of the oldest native pony breeds in Britain and yet is currently listed as an endangered rare breed. Around 3,500 ponies survive worldwide, of which about 350 still live free on Exmoor. The Moorland Mousie Trust, based at the Exmoor Pony Centre, is a small charity working to promote and conserve these very special ponies. The Exmoor Pony Centre is open daily (except Saturdays) from 10 am to 4 pm between the Easter holidays and 31st October, with restricted opening times for the rest of the year. Entrance to the Exmoor Pony Centre is free of charge, although donations to our work are always welcome. The Exmoor Pony Centre invites visitors to come and meet our ponies and learn more about this special breed. If you wish to ride an Exmoor pony, the Centre offers two options. Our three-hour Exmoor Experience trek is for competent riders, with a discretionary minimum age of 11 years old. Alternatively we offer one hour Taster sessions in our indoor arena for those with less experience. There is a weight limit of 12 stone/75 kg for riding the ponies. Visitors to the Centre can meet the ponies and learn about their history and their life on the moor. Refreshments and toilet facilities are available as well as a pony-themed shop. Regular events are held at the Exmoor Pony Centre throughout the year. We also cater for group visits, corporate days and birthday parties (generally out of high season) so please contact us if you would like to hold your event at the Exmoor Pony Centre. For more information please have a look at our our website.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Visited this afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed our time here. The staff were friendly and keen to share their knowledge. The ponies were all happily munching on hay. As a family we plan to return next spring.

Easy to find. Plenty of parking and very informative staff.
Lovely to see the ponies up close and learn all about their life, care and protection.
Would recommend a visit and subsequent donation.

We visited today with our two young children. We had emailed in advance to find out about any pony rides / experiences and got a very quick and informative response.
Despite a tough drive as our sat nav took us through some very narrow country roads we got there and was warmly welcomed.
Because we hadn’t thought to bring closed toe shoes for our 4 and a bit yr old son he couldn’t help groom the pony, but this was due to safety to ensure he wasn’t injured if his toes got stood on.
The staff were very friendly, and despite some initial anxiety of sitting on Fleeter the pony our son loved his experience.
The young lady Courtney was very good at helping to find ways to reassure him and got him to go with her walking the pony around the indoor school.
He eventually sat happily on Fleeter and had a good 30minutes riding, with Courtney entertaining him throughout.
The staff were extremely knowledgable and helpful.
Definitely worth a visit to see the lovely Ponies and to give them a stroke, and support the good work by the staff there.
Thankyou from Luke ans his parents (sorry the bubba yelled a lot as he didn’t get a ride!).

Thank you so much for giving my two girls such a magical day. It was great that they were given the opportunity to be hands on with Borridge, a lovely Exmoor Pony, learning about the process of getting a horse ready before riding and understanding more about the importance of horse care. You were all so patient and clearly passionate, they really are such a beautiful breed. Riding was the big request from my daughters whilst on holiday but it was really so much more than just a ride on a horse that we have experienced elsewhere. We had such an amazing holiday and this being our last day was really the icing on the carrot cake! The location is right on the moor and I am already planning a visit back for myself as the experienced rider is also catered for and it is clearly the most amazing place to explore on horse back. We are all so pleased to have supported an amazing charity, it even has a lovely shop so please visit and help this amazing cause.

Lovely place, with the friendliest, most knowledgeable staff dedicated to protecting this breed.
We booked ahead for our daughter to have an hour hacking around the lanes. She had a great time, helping to groom and tack up, with the most honest, kind ponies and she can’t wait to return.

Fantastic day out for families, we had a lovely time doing pony rides, arts and crafts, pony grooming and tours. I think the volunteers here are so friendly and really care for the ponies, they were chatting about each one and you could tell that they looked after them well. My daughter and nephew (age 5 and 8) absolutely loved it, a great day out and also we went onto the moors for a little walk, was beautiful. Couldn’t fault it and would highly recommend!

First time visiting and my daughter had a taster session cost £35 and don’t begrudge paying a penny not only does it go to a good course the staff go above and beyond. From grooming to saddling to riding and trotting. Absolutely brilliant. Staff are very knowledgeable and made my daughters dreams come true so thank you.

We went to the Pony Centre as a family to visit.
It’s a low key kind of place that you get a view of the ponies, a show around of the stable area, and a short talk on the ponies.
A filler for an hour or two.
