An interesting mix of bird watching, archaeology and WW1/2 history. Steve was an excellent and knowledgeable guide and made sure we saw everything (even the hen harriers!). He was flexible in making the most of the weather and avoiding the coach parties.

We were due to stay in Orcadian's Wildlife Self Catering accomodation Peedie House in July 2020, however due to COVID19 this has been in doubt since lockdown started in March.

Steve the owner has been excellent in keeping us up to date with what has been happening and has managed our expectations brilliantly.

We have agreed that under the present circumstances and what lockdown might look like within the next month or so and to "protect' Orkney, to transfer our booking to 2021 on the terms & conditions of this years booking.

Exceptional way of operating a business in very trying times for everyone but especially for businesses

So much to see and experience, and all comfortably packed into six days. The guide was very experienced and knowledgeable, and was able to give a fascination overview of each archaeological site. He was also very knowledgeable about birds, and we visited a number of bird hides. The scenery was superb.

I went on the 7 day Birds and Archaeology tour in June - absolutely perfect. It was my first trip to the Orkneys. My main goal was to see puffins - but that was just one of the dozens of highlights of the trip. Steve Sankey our leader was so knowledgeable of birds, Orcadian history, and the wild flowers which were just beginning to flower. I can't imagine a better way to see the Orkneys. We saw so many bird and archaeology sites - we couldn't have seen so much in a week without his expertise. Our group was 4 women who met for the first time - and we'll be friends for life.

Spent a wonderful week in Orkney. Worth every penny and with an unforgettable guide Steve Sankey. Despite the weather we managed to see an abundance of birds. Steve’s knowledge is great and anything he doesn’t know, he will go out of his way to find out. His jokes need a lot of work!
The weeks tour was very enjoyable and fun. The stop off to see the Woolley pigs a must. They love apples and not camera shy!
Our visit to the Tomb of Eagles was excellent and Steve’s enthusiasm regarding the archaeology impressive. The ladies at ToE equally passionate.
The walk to the Old Man of Hoy very worth while and we even saw 3 Sea Eagles and a couple of Hen Harriers.
The Broch of Gurness; the Italian Chapel; Skara Brae; Ring of Brodgar.. I could go on. So much to see and memorable.
The wartime stories behind Orkney are absorbing and nostalgic. Steve doesn’t push his theories onto his listeners, he just lets you know his thoughts. It does make you think!!
The free day is brilliant and the buses on Orkney and their drivers are fantastic. We got a day rider ticket and just hopped around the Island.
I can recommend Orcadian Wildlife .
Orkney locals are very friendly and once you tune into their accent they have heaps to tell you about Orkney and little snippets that are very interesting! We bumped into Mrs Macdonald whose late husband started the Orkney wireless museum! She was a hoot! Wouldn’t stop chatting. All in all a fabulous week which we would do again.

I spent a wonderful week touring Orkney with Steve and the birding group. Not only did we search out and observe plenty of birds and other wildlife but we also visited the archaeological sights and came away with a very good feel for Orkney. I fully recommend a holiday with Orcadian Wildlife for a relaxed, informative and entertaining time in the far north.

Orcadian Wildlife run the most impressive sounding tours, and having spent a single day with Steve we can confirm his knowledge and company are perfect. We were between seasons - at the end of August breeding had just past and we were ahead of the migration - and yet we had a wonderful day. Steve took us to many habitats (a forest?!) in South Ronaldsay in a very short period of time, and we saw many birds. I couldn't recommend Steve and his company more highly. Brilliant.

My wife last visited Shetland when she was in the sixth form and wanted to return. It has taken a further 50 years to do so, and we booked with Steve. We went with high expectations and were not in the least disappointed. From the very north to the very south - and lots between - we wanted to see birds, otter and native flora - and Steve's determination to show us meant we did. With a small group the informality of the programme meant each day was taken as it came.
It was great! Worth every penny, and lots more!
