We visited this castle with the intention of doing the seal tours. That was our first stop. For a minimal fee, the tour is approx. 20-30 minutes in a small motor boat that travels around the rocky banks of the Loch to see the cutest seals. It was fantastic. Far exceeded our expectations! Went slow enough to really experience the... more

After a beautiful drive across Scotland from Inverness, we arrived on Skye to beautiful weather. The castle is in a stunning position beside the loch, which we explored a bit on one of the castle's motor boats when we went on one of their seal watching trips. Lovely, and our daughter was thrilled. Reminded me of Tintin and the Black... more

I have visited Dunvegan castle on a number of occasions since my first visit to Skye over ten years ago and have consistently found it a rewarding experience. Rising from the edge of Loch Dunvegan, with views across the Minch to the Outer Hebrides - you couldn't ask for a more dramatic setting. My sense is that there is new... more

As a frequent visitor to Skye I have to say that the Dunvgan Castle experience has been transformed out of all recognition in the last year or two. The gardens are a delight - the best we have seen on the West Coast and a far cry from how we remember them under the Castle's old management. They are huge:... more

Having read the mixed reviews below, we were not sure whether to visit this attraction or not. However, lovely as Skye and Dunvegan is, there aren't many other castles to visit. So we did take the plunge. One thing on arrival which another reviewer has pointed out is the new car park, cafe and shop. The toilets were still in... more

I wanted to post this as I spent a week in Skye at Easter with my family including 2 children ages 14 and 12. There is not tons to do in Skye and the children are at a difficult to please age, so I hope this helps other travellers. As somewhere to go an a dry but dull day, Dunvegan... more

This is my first visit to the castle and gardens in 10 years and with the new clan chief in charge the changes are well worth another visit. The carpark has been fully resurfaced. The new carpark toilets are clean and tidy . Hugh McLeod invited us to see the castle and garden after bringing his family to see our... more

Large parts of the castle are not available for public viewing because the clan chief lives there. Apart from one scenic part near a waterfall the gardens are fairly non-descript too. The only saving grace was a boat trip to see seals on some nearby small islands - that was excellent value and the highlight of the day. more

I have visited Dunvegan Castle last september and I cannot get the place out of my mind. It's such a wondeful site, full of history and the home of the immortels chiefs of Macleod!!! It is also chilling to know that the smae family still lives in it! I have also loved the garden and my dad could not stop... more

We really enjoyed our visit to Dunvegan Castle. The tour was interesting and there were loads of fascinating Jacobite relics including a lock of Bonnie Prince Charlie's hair. The gardens were stunning and very well kept but the seal trip on Loch Dunvegan was an amazing experience. We were taken within a few feet of the seals by a very... more
