We are castle aficionados and this one is very pretty. My only complaint is the lack of signage to find the way. We drove in circles and found it mostly by luck. It's worth a look.

It is not signposted, there is a small road leading to a car park afer Dalmally heading to Oban before you go over a bridge. It is worth the effort. Nice walk from the free car park to a castle at the head of the gorgeous Loch Awe. Free entry and the castle itself is a delight, but the views...

This castle was recommended by a family member and it did not disappoint. It is situated at the top of Loch Awe and accessed from the main road to Oban. There is a small car park off the road and then it is a ten minute walk to the castle. When we went there was nobody else around and we...

Left our B&B in Benderloch, (which is near Oban), and visited Kilchurn Caste on our way south to Inverary Castle and Town, and onto Glasgow. The drive is easy, the parking is about 12 spaces, the short walk to the castle was great. There was good signage within the castle. Wish they had a donation box -- it was a...

Been there in summer - very nice. In winter winter the castle is not open, you only can see it from the outside.
It´s not so easy to find the parkinglot, there are no signs on the road. When you are driving towards Loch Awe, it is located on the left side before you cross the bridge. Park the car,...

Kilchurn is magical to come across in the early evening, when you find it silhouetted against the darkening sky.
At the time we went, the jetty was somewhat in a ruined state, not to be dared upon unless one was very sure-footed - so slightly less opportunity for photos than on a visit 3 years previously....
I loved the evening...

A fascinating and obscure profile is silhouetted on the horizon of the end of Loch Awe in the county of Awe Dalmally. It's Kilchurn castle with its gray stone, its sinister shape that is reflected directly into the lake. It can be reached only on foot along a narrow isthmus of land that is sometimes swallowed by the lake. The...

We say it from the road but couldn't get there.. It is a real old castle that is not a tourist trap
Kilchurn Castle sits on the shores of Loch Awe, It is a fantastic castle full of character & well worth a visit.
The place is a little obscure and is hard to find the entrance to the car park (no signage etc). That's largely due to it being under heritage trust control. That's probably why the place is so much better than other sites which usually enforce parking and entrance fees. Plus there's no gift or souvenir shops, however there are no...
