The overall experience is one that usually causes first-timers to say, "I didn't realise it would be so wonderful! Or some such. The basic facts are quite well known, this is the last one of those sea-going paddle steamers. For first-timers what is perhaps interesting is how the vessel is made to work seasonal sailings around Britain's coast and how... More

We had been bought a voucher as a gift for a cruise on the Waverely. Having spent years watching it steaming down the clyde was thoroughly looking forward to it. We had booked a trip to the Rothesay highland games, and planned a short time going round the games before sailing back. Weather was looking good, so we were all... More

My partner and I had seen the Waverley cruising on the Clyde during our holiday at Wemyss Bay last year, but did not have the chance to have a ride on her. This is something which we made up for on our recent fortnight in Ayrshire. We chose to do the "afternoon steam around Ailsa Craig" from Ayr Harbour, which... More

Four of us travelled down the Firth of Clyde.on the PS Waverley from Glasgow. We stopped in Rothesay for an hour before returning to Glasgow. All in all, we spent around six and a half hours on board and it flew by. Anyone in the UK who has a chance to travel on this wonderful craft should jump at the... More

The paddle steamer PS Waverley was built in 1947 on the Clyde as a commuter (before that term was invented) ferry, and did not leave its home waters for three decades. It was sold for a £1 to a charity, and now sails excursions from around the UK as the last steam-powered sea-going paddle steamer in the world. I travelled... More

We boarded PS Waverley at Oban and travelled to the island of Staffa to see Fingal's Cave. The weather was superb, visibility excellent. Staff aboard were very friendly and helpful and everyone who wished was able to transfer by tender to the island. Catering aboard was the usual tasty Waverley fare. Return journey down the Sound of Mull in the... More
