We arrived on a Tuesday, the only day the Museum is closed. We could park for free, and walk to and see the Balcony where Dr King was shot. On a side note, the cars below the room are not authentic, we found out they were put there for atmosphere. Be sure to speak to Jacqueline Smith who is on... more

I am a british male and visited the Civil Rights museum in apr 2007. I'd like to think I had an idea of how black people were treated in the southern USA, but this museum still shocks and surprises, and reminds you just how unfair things were just when you think you are becoming desensitised to it all. The story... more

I have visited the Civil Rights Museum in Memphis twice. First, in the mid 90's and then again in the early 2000's. Both time a profound and deeply moving experience. Be prepared for goose-pimples and lumps in the throat. The bus in which Rosa Parks refused to stand up was the first exhibit that gave me goose pimples and I... more

Everything the previous travelers have said is absolutely true. After viewing both buildings and then walking outside and seeing the hotel, the cars as they were and the wreath marking the spot where it happened, you can't help but being moved. I would recommend this museum to everyone - probably not for very small children though as there is a... more

As you pull up and see the facade of the Lorraine Motel, memories of that fateful day come rushing back. The tragedy, the loss, the uncertain future. Dr King was "free at last" and we were left to live his legacy. The National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis takes you through a chronological-topical serpentine that concludes with the actual room... more

Very well done and extremely moving. The fact that the museum is located in the hotel where MLK was assassinated really adds something to the whole experience. I am a white male and this museum really gives you insight into the whole black experience in the United States. I VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS THIS MUSEUM TO ANYONE REGARDLESS OF RACE,... more

Just to walk in the footstep of history was totally awesome. To be able to expirence and see this historic site gives you cold chills. The Lorraine Motel is preserved just as it was the evening the Dr. King was assassinated. Any visitor to Memphis should visit this historic site. more

The civil right museum is attached to the lorraine motel. It is $12 admission plus an extra $2 for the headset. It was a waste of money to pay the $12 let alone more. Take a picture of the outside where martin luther king was shot and move on. more
