The building is a beautiful historic place. The shows are so-so. Went to see Cirque Dreams Holidaze last night. Don't wast your money on this one. I've seen high school kids put on a better show. We didn't realize Wicked was playing in Memphis until we arrived. Of course, the only tickets left for the production were either obstructed view ($90) or nosebleed section ($50). We chose to participate in the ticket lottery and we won! The way it works is you show up between 5:30-6:00 on the day of the show you want to see.... more
The Orpheum Theatre is a Memphis gem! The theatre was originally built in 1890 as an Opera House but burned down in 1923. Five years later it was rebuilt bigger and better as The Orpheum. In 1940 it was turned into a movie theater and operated as so until 1976! (what a waste for such a beautiful building!) After that... more
The Orpheum is such a beautiful theater. There are movies, plays, concerts and musicals going on all year. In the summer they have a classic movie series and throughout the year there is a Broadway series. Upcoming shows include Wicked, Legally Blonde and Avenue Q. Check the schedule and visit the Orpheum Theater whenever you are in Memphis. more
