The museum is interesting. There are permanent and visiting exhibits. Several years ago I saw a fantastic display of Chihuly glass there. The gardens are great in the spring, as much of the landscape is in azaleas. The Memphis Botanical garden is also close by.

Growing up in Memphis, I got most of my exposure to fine art through the Dixon gallery and it is a favorite place to visit when I go back. The permanent collection is pretty small and consists mostly of porcelain and some Impressionist paintings. Having been to the gallery multiple times, I usually just go to the see the current... We were passing through the city and went to this grand place which was originally a mansion built in 1939. It has a beautiful large garden area and a delightful museum. It is part of the National Association of Reciprocal Museums so admission for us were free. They also have free parking in their lot. A delightful place to visit--do... More

Gardens are lovely; time your visit if you can around what's in bloom (tulips, azaleas, etc.). Museum is very good but check before going for special exhibitions. Some hot, some not.

This gallery is a good one. It's located on the grounds of an old estate, and the design and landscaping is really tastefully. They have changing exhibits, typically throughout the year, and I've always appreciated the curators' ideas about what to bring to the museum. The big surprise, though, is in the older section of the museum. They have some... More

Garden people love gardens. You see plants you may not grow or know. Get ideas and enjoy the garden you wish you had along with (to be sure) a gardener to take care of it just for you. Back when people spent money on the house and not the TV people once lived with beauty something like this garden. The... More

We really enjoyed this collection on loan from Louisville, KY. The first time I have ever seen an orginal Rembrandt. So perfect it almost looks like a digital photograph.
