We had a wonderful afternoon on the Talyllyn railway this week. The staff in the shop were very helpful and when I lost my wallet on a walk into town we returned to the station where they replaced our lost tickets and told us where the local police station was. They phoned the next morning as my wallet had been... More

A nice steam railway, with great views, and if you are up to it good walks. You can stop off on the way and get on the next train all day. It is a good day out.

Formerly used to transport slate and passengers, this narrow gauge railway climbs up the valley of the Dysynni River to its terminal near the slate quarries at Nant Gwernol. Hauled by a small steam engine we wound our way upwards alongside fields filled with sheep and their playful lambs, and then through a forest, passing steep waterfalls. Every few minutes,... More

Talyllan Railway is reportedly the world's first preserved railway. Located in Tywyn, the narrow-gauge railway runs from the wharf to Nant Gwernol, with several stops in between. At the stops you can either have refreshment at the station cafe or walk some of the local trails to see sights such as the waterfall at Dolgoch station. The railway has four... More

Excellent day out, travelling in the original carriages from the Victorian era, pulled by one of the original locomotives.

My husband is a steam train lunatic...and from NZ we booked a Drivers Experience on theTalyllyn Railway in Wales. Here he drove one of their steam locos the Edward Thomas for several hours from Tywyn to Abergynolwyn and back. We had the whole train to ourselves with only a driver to oversee the driving, a fireman and a guard. I... More

The Whole atmosphere of the Railway is great. Start at Towyn ride to Dolgoch leave the train and walk to the falls. reboard the next train along, then on to the end of the line for lunch and a beer at The Railway Inn at Abergonolwyn. Makes for a great day out. Keep your eyes peeled for Red Kites!

We visited on Christmas Eve for the Santa Special, and can only offer praise for the entire experience. The whole event was very well organised, wth some passengers being allowed off to visit Santa while the rest took a ride on to the next station and then visited Santa on the way back - much better than a long queue... There is something very appealing about riding the narrow gauge railways of Wales and there is none finer than the Talyllyn line. Keen enthusiasts and volunteers keep this historic train running well past the busy summer season. The journey takes as you up a beautiful valley through well preserved tiny stations. On the return journey it stops for about 30... More
