First worked in 1836 and abandoned by the miners in the early 1970s, more than 130 years of mining history is captured inside waiting to be discovered. It is as if the mine has just closed. Machinery, tools, even the candles and a packet of cigarettes are still in place as the miners left them. Corris Mine Explorers gives you the opportunity to visit these abandoned slate mine workings, to step into the tough working lives of the miners and of past generations. 3 trips to choose from: 1 hour Taster, 2 hour Mine Explorer Trip and a Half Day Mine Expedition. « less

This needs a higher rating than 5. Done a four hour tour with our guide Mark who made it very interesting. There are no plastic models in this mine, there is real equipment left in situ by miners which Mark manages to bring life and shows the work that went into excavating the massive chambers and linking tunnels. This really... More

Stopped off in Corris on the way to Snowdonia and thought we'd see if we could go on the King Arthur's Labyrinth attraction there but as it was off season it was closed... however... we spotted a sign for the Corris Mine Explorers in the cafe and asked if it was available, the cafe man radioed Mark (the guide) and... Four of us went for a 4 hour trip and were blown away by the experience. Mark, our guide, was a fountain of knowledge and enthusiasm. We learned a huge amount about the history of slate mining in the area and the conditions under which people worked and were able to see and experience the mine for ourselves. I would... More

I have visited Corris Mine Explorers twice, once with my family and most recently with a party of school children. Braich Goch mine is an awe-inspiring underground attraction. It can be experienced as a show cave, but it's much better to book the guided adventure to see some of the highlights of the mine complex with a highly knowledgeable guide... More

What a helpful review, thank you so much. We're getting more and more bookings from school groups, like your own, (primary and secondary schools, our minimum age is 8) as well as cub and scout groups. With all group bookings of 10 or more, explorations can be largely tailored to the interests of the group so can include as much... More

I would definitely recommend it. I did the two hours tour with my children and we all loved it! Our guide, Mark, was very friendly and explained us many things about the mine history.

We decided to visit Corris Mine Explorers because it was a rainy day and we were on holiday with nothing else to do! However, I am so pleased that we went, and I would definitely recommend it. The tours are quite intimate as you can only have a maximum of ten in a group and you basically get the whole... More
