We reached Belgrave by car and parked near to the "real railway" station. The short walk to the narrow railway station is the beginning of the journey, as you get the feeling of leaving modernity for a jump in the past. A group of 4 of us went for a ride on Sat 12 Sep on a beautiful sunny day! We all really enjoyed the trip from Belgrave to Emerald Lakes, spent about 40 mins at the lake before heading back to Belgrave. I think next time we'll take an earlier train in order to spend more time at the Lake... more

The Puffing Billy narrow gauge steam tourist railway may be reached by Connex suburban train from Flinders Street platforms 2 or 3 to Belgrave. This is a fantastic day out. The scenary from the train is beautiful! Make sure you dangle your legs out of the carriages! We did the full line up to Gembrook which I would recommend. This is a nice steam train ride up in the hills, with the added bonus that you can sit with your legs dangling out of the window - and you'd never be allowed to do that in the UK! There are shops at the various stations and places to buy snacks. more

Great Day out. Check the weather before you go as other than the 'first class' carriages the rest are 'open air' and it can get very windy and cold on the trip.
