This was a much anticipated trip to Burnett Texas to attend the Bluebonnett Festival. The car we rode in "The Santa Fe" was staffed by a wonderful volunteer that took excellent care of all the guests. The snacks were delicious and the air conditioned ride to Burnett was beautiful with all the Texas wildflowers in bloom. This was a fantastic... More

After reading about the train in a Texas travel magazine, my mom really wanted to do this, so she and my aunt came down for a visit and we all rode the Hill Country Flyer. The train is owned and operated by the Austin Steam Train Association, a nonprofit organization staffed by volunteers. They have done an amazing job restoring... More

Glad I read the reviews. I knew to dress warm and to visit a cafe & antique shops in Burnet. It was a lot of fun to ride the train. Out at 10, back at 3:30. Only critique is car A was seated tightly and they don't turn around the seats unless you ask, and car B was pretty cold,... More

I have to say I am not too sure what they expect from a train ride. They do send out a memo stating there is not constant entertainment. I have a very hyper 6 yr old who is train crazy (and I mean CRAZY). We had a blast on the north pole flyer. They had 2 people come lead our... More

This was advertised as a very Christmasy family experience- it was a train ride with free hot chocolate. Please don't waste your money. My kids were totally bored. It just did not meet our expectations.

We went for our 11th anniversary and my husband's birthday on the 21st ,but before going I made some special plans to surprise my him. I wanted to renew our vows in front of everybody ,so I called Daniel who is in charge of arranging events. I told him my plans and he said he would call the Sheriff(he does... More

We rode the train with a 3 year old who loves trains. We brought toys for him and reserved a private compartment. We took the shorter tour since he is young. The volunteers are helpful, kind, and know alot about trains. We had lots of fun. Not boring at all. Everyone on board seemed to enjoy. Also free cookies! We... More

The Austin Steam Train is an excursion railroad offering a number of different excursions including a special "Thomas Train" excursion and dinner trips that include a meal and a train robbery! Rode the Bertram Flyer - just a short trip to Bertram with a 15-minute stop to check out the train depot. Nice ride, very comfortable . . . lots of kids! Snack treats & water were provided, but you could visit the snack bar to pay for more substantial items. You're allowed to move freely among the train cars; all... More
