The museum started from a collection of Western American art, so it is strongest in F. Remington and Charles Russell, with many paintings and sculptures. They later expanded the mission to all American Art so there is a sprinkling of works in other genres that adds a nice touch of variety. There is also a large exhibit of photography. Free... more

This museum was such a pleasant discovery for us. From what I had been told, it is known for its western art ollection. What amazed me was their collection of American photography. Wow! This collection of art and sculpture by Charles Russell and Frederic Remington is very extensive, with excellent information alongside each to narrate the stories depicted. You may not be a fan of the cowboy life, but these illustrations keep it realistic, with all the everyday detail. Indian costumes are particularly interesting.
