This garden is run as a foundation created by one person whose personal vision has shaped an interesting horticultural experience. We went in early spring (March) when no much was blooming. The guided tour pointed out many unusual species that the founder had personally collected on many trips. The property, located in Hempstead, Texas, also includes the founder's home, an... More

Peckerwood Garden is the private garden of John G. Fairy, who is responsible for introducing a wide range of rare, native plants from Mexico to an American audience. It is open to the public during specific weekends. They give guided tours and have a small nursery of plants that are not available in normal garden stores.

Peckerwood Garden is an amazing example of what can be done with Texas pastureland. The 20 acre garden is filled with trees, green and flowing vegetation along with cactus and water treatments. The place is peaceful and beautiful. Our tour guide was very informative and be bought plants to take home. Well worth the trip to Hempstead, Texas.

A wide variety of flora integrated with a unique collection of sculpture, made the visit most memorable. The owner was also a gracious informant and readily answered all... More

John, the owner of the garden was very nice to talk with and took time with me to show off many plant favorites. Also, Next door... More
