I didn't know much about Sam Houston before we came, but I do now! Museum is lots of reading, but interesting. The buildings are OK. Be sure to go the 2nd floor of the Steamboat House.

We really enjoyed this museum. We also enjoyed walking the extensive grounds and seeing Sam Houston's homes, etc.... Check the hours before you go. Admission is minimal, $2, and well worth it.

We arrived late in the afternoon so we had to rush our visit. We spent 75 minutes but did not get to see everything. It cost $4 for the museum and grounds. This was a pretty fun and relaxing little experience. It's free for a reason, but the museum is high-quality and just the right size. The old buildings on the grounds are neat and well-kept, and there is a pretty area by a little pond that would be nice for a picnic.

Before you go to this museum, stop by and see the giant statue of Sam Houston. You can view it from I-45 as you're heading north from Houston to Huntsville.
