Went on a Wednesday as the Madrid Top 10 guidebook said entry was free. Yet one more example of the inaccuracies and omissions in this guidebook, it's only free after 17.00 in high season. Never-the-less we were quite happy paying to see inside. The palace is quite a cold and sombre place, but I guess that was much as it...

On a clear day you can supposedly see it from the Royal Palace...we were there on a rainy day...but only about a 45-minute train ride from Madrid, it is well worth the trip. We took the express train at the Chamartin station but there other stations to take it at too.
Beautifully maintained buildings and grounds. You really should buy...

amazingly big and located in a charming village at only 30 minutes from Madrid. Built durind the XVI century.
take cercanias train, then after 30 or 45 minutes, you will arrive there, tkt is cheap, maybe 6 euros each way, then take a bus that takes you to the top , near the escorial, it also cost like 1 euro , very nice place
Took the bus from Moncloa bus/metro station - they leave on the hour. It took 1 hour and cost 3.50 euros (single).
There is no buggy/wheelchair space on the coach - so if you have a buggy you have to fold it down.
Helpful tourist information located in front of the monastery. Maps and booklets available in English.
Entry is...

Stark and prisonlike from the outside, the inside is truly palatial and well maintained. Well worth a visit.

It is a must see attraction if you are in Madrid. I was with my husband and we truly enjoy every minute we spend in that place. I guess the funerary urns and the...
