This is one of the best memorials I've been to.... not only is it beautiful (layout, sculptures, gardens) - but - it is highly educational and tells the complete story of the D-Day invasion - from planning through execution. You can easily spend most of a day here. The gift shop and information center is also very well done -... More

A private foundation is responsible for this beautiful, sprawling memorial. It was designed and built without government funding. That is also how it is maintained. It is worthy of your attention and support. What I especially appreciated was the opportunity to honor my WWII veteran father with a flag purchased ($3) at their modest and reasonable souvenir shop, which I... More

The guide did an excellent job describing the planning and execution of this battle. I bought the book "The Bedford Boys" afterwards describing the journey of the Army Unit from this little town which was on the 2nd boat to land on Omaha Beach. Local people described to me how the telegrams kept coming and coming throughout the day notifying... More

I have been to all the monuments in DC and others in this country. This is by far the one that bought out the most emotion and connection to the soldiers that sacrficed for our country. It will elicit emotions that have never been tapped into before. The visuals of this monument put you there with our soldiers on that fateful... More

The D-Day Memorial is a very nice place to visit - all the World War II memorabilia and souvenirs. Although it has been in operation for several years now, it has taken off slowly and I feel all the visions that were originally seen have gone by the wayside. Sad...

The D-Day memorial is a beautiful espression of memory to the World War II veterans and anyone who is familiar with that time. The grounds are beautiful and a great reminder of what Bedford VA lost that day. Great history learning opportunity for anyone. Bring your camera, you will want photos. There are a lot of things to do in the... More

Tiny Bedford, Virginia, lost more sons per capita on Omaha Beach during D-Day (June 6, 1944) than any place in America. The townspeople carved out, designed and constructed this purely magnificent, amazing tribute to "The Bedford Boys" with their own money and labor. President George W. Bush, hearing of this, designated their effort the National D-Day Memorial. I honestly believe... More

I have seen many memorials including all in Washington, DC. This is one that is so moving it almost brought tears to my eyes. I was standing in front of the four soldiers climbing the wall. The expression on their faces along with the plaque in front is so moving. The rushing sounds of the waterfalls envelopes you as you... More
