The tour guides of UVA have to go through rigorous training and "try-outs" to become a U-Guide. They are just terrific, charismatic, and well-spoken. The tour gives you lots of interesting history on the University that Thomas Jefferson designed. Unique architecture, very forward thinking for its time. You get to visit the room Edgar Allen Poe stayed in. This University... more

Having gone to college at the University of Virginia, I never tire of visiting the Lawn and the Rotunda - I have the same feeling of awe related to the beautiful architecture every time. I had the priviledge to live on the Lawn in one of the original rooms during my time there - something I will never forget. more

The UVA campus is a beautiful place to just wander around or have a picnic outside and people watch. You can really picture how it was back in the 1800s with the rows of old student rooms and faculty houses (still in use) lining "The Lawn". It's also the only university in the US to be a part of UNESCO... more

We didn't do an official 'tour', but we've walked around campus several times during the summer when the students weren't there (much less crowded). It's a very nice campus with lots if interesting buildings and history. Parking can be hard to find and / or expensive...use the bus if you can. They're cheap and convenient. more

We highly recommend a tour of the Rotunda and the adjacent grounds. The tour is free and is conducted by a student tour guide; sign up at the Rotunda. The historical "dorm cottages" are attached to the Rotunda and are highly prized by upperclassmen. While they are very old, the cottages are quaint and carry great historical significance. Peeking in... more

It would be a terrible oversight to visit Charlottesville and not visit the Thomas Jefferson designed campus of the University of Virginia. A walk onto the campus and one feels that they are at a very special place of knowledge and leearning. The centerpiece of the campus is "The Rotunda," cited by most books on architecture as one of the... more
