This is a nice little visit with dosents who personally give you a tour of this historic home, and you find that George Mason was the originator of the Bill of Rights, as well as some of the original language in our constitution.

A hidden gem of a plantation that belonged to one of the "forgotten founders". George Mason said he would rather cut off his arm than sign the Constitution and went on to demand a Bill of Rights. You can thank George for all the freedoms we enjoy today! Go, enjoy, learn, a great place for families.
We went to Gunston Hall for a school field trip. It was a wonderful visit. There is actually alot to see and learn if you like these kind of places like I do. The docents were very polite and knew SO many things to tell everyone too ! This place played host to SO many people. There is even a...

George Mason's name is famous recently for basketball teams, but the original had a lovely house just off the Potomac River that you can visit today. Also nice grounds and walking trails. Look for the many bald eagles too and visit nearby Mason Neck Park for walking, kayaking and canoeing.
George Mason was the father of the Bill of Rights. See his place free from the many crowds that trample the more known founding fathers. Very knowledgable docents.
Mason's plantation is smaller than Mt. Vernon but just as interesting. There is a wonderful visitor's center. The house is complete and easily explored. The grounds are nice right on the river. Make the drive. It is pretty too.

If you are at all interested in architecture or history, I definitely recommend a visit. The tour starts with a brief and informative video on George Mason. The visitor's...

The tour was very informative. The house itself is pretty, but not on the same scale as Mt Vernon.
Very few people know about the history of George Mason the Fourth. He was an intellectual leader amongst the founding fathers, had a disagreement with George Washington, then was forgotten a bit BUT his home and plantation on the Potomac is a great place to visit a well preserved plantation....along with Mt. Vernon, seeing these two ppaces will bring history...

George Mason is probably one of the lesser-known men among our Founders, but that doesn't make him any less important; his words were in large part the foundation for our Bill of Rights. I was very happy to learn that the home of this influential man was available for visitors to tour.
There is a visitor's center that looks brand-new,...
