I went here Memorial Day and choose the dusk tour / dancing / character tours which was an amazing experience. The mansion itself is only a small part of the areas to see - many houses / huts surrounding the mansion are interesting by themselves. The welcome center houses an amazing museum on Washington and his times worth the visit... More

My family and I visited and had a wonderful time. We arrived early and spent the entire day there. The audio devices were extra, but worth it. The tour of the mansion seemed somewhat rushed, but we visited the outer buildings and grounds at our own pace. The gardens are beautiful and great for pictures. We took the cruise on... More

Loved the home and grounds. There is an informative and worthwhile tour and center, but the most interesting and fun for me was the working period authentic distillery! A relatively recent addition you really should see it. And if you visited Mt Vernon before I recommend you return as I did to see this addition!

Resturant is the perfect place for a wedding reception. Great lunch (try the peanut soup), great gift shop. Very busy on holidays, go off season for a better time. Be sure to walk the grounds.

Considering the masses that flow through this property 365 days a year, everything appears to run smoothly and efficiently with friendly helpful guides. The estate is magnificent and big enough to spend the whole day exploring. Just accept the fact that there will be swarms of school students everywhere. Their comments are actually often insiteful!

George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate was one of my highlights on our 5 day trip to Washington DC. From seeing the house and the bed where Washington actually died to his burial site this tour is quite moving and beautiful. Mount Vernon is 8,000 acres of beautiful grounds and history and a must see on your visit to Washington.

For $15 adult admission you can view all of Mount Vernon including the house (long lines), gardens and various outbuildings. The gardens were wonderful and it is very pleasant to sit on the chairs on the front porch of the house and look out on the Potomac. Consider packing a picnic as there is a lovely front lawn. If not,... More

Go really early to avoid school groups of kids more interested in texting than history. We were amazed to stand in the same places as George Washington.

The visitor center underwent a major upgrade in around 2010 and is well worth a re-visit just for that. Of course the house is a major attraction, and the grounds are very attractive, not to mention (as everyone does) the river views. No, George did not throw a dollar across the Potomac here - it is well over a mile... More

When I lived in Virginia I maintained an annual pass for Mount Vernon and loved to visit the restaurant, gardens, or just sit on the front porch and read a book. I still make an effort to get back when I can but I can assure you that this is an excellent place to visit year round. The house and... More
