The Calle La Calzada is a tourist walkway, filled with restaurants, bars, travel agencies and other services for tourists and Nicaraguans who can afford them. We stayed at Hotel Plaza Colon and enjoyed the quick walk to Calle La Calzada. It was safe to walk at night and we felt very comfortable. Almost every restaurant has outdoor seating and it was nice to enjoy food and a drink while doing some people walking.

We enjoyed trying the different bars and restaurants. There were street performers every night. It was nice having so many choices in one place. We felt safe with the police around. Most were undercover so you didn't really notice them but it was nice knowing they were there.

I trip to Nicaragua without visiting La Calzada once, is like going to New York City and not visiting Time Square. Yeah, it is noise, touristy, and more expensive then elsewhere, but it is all those things because there is an inherent awesomeness to it that you will love. You will be glad you visited it.
