About
Established in 1819, the Kerikeri Mission Station is one of New Zealand's first places where Māori invited visitors to to live among them. Built under the protection of local Ngā Puhi chiefs who were keen to harness the trade and technology of Europe, Kerikeri Mission Station grew amidst a backdrop of tribal warfare and ever increasing visits from foreign ships. Located only 5 minutes from Kerikeri the Kerikeri Mission Station has a range of activites available. Experienced guides share stories of fierce warriors and drunken sailors and earnest missionaries who preached, taught and battled to spread the Christian message amongst Māori, a proud people with their own ancient traditions. The Kerikeri Mission Station is also the site of two of the country's oldest surviving buildings- The Stone Store and Kemp House.

A large area to explore. Walk from the store across the bridge to the Maori Village - NZD10 each to explore on your own. There is plenty of signs - no need for a guide. There is also a Maori boat on that side with picnic grounds as well. Back on the store side, there is a good cafe with plenty of seating. The oldest building in NZ and the Stone Store Museum and shop to look through. Another NZD20 for both buildings.

You could spend hours here. Be prepared to walk around on well maintained tracks.

Kemp House, surrounded by New Zealand's oldest European garden, very pretty. The Stone Store, New Zealand's oldest surviving stone building was a treat, lots of interesting and everyday items for sale.

An amazing site that is such a key part of New Zealand's history. And the staff are superb - bending over backwards to tackle my questions! Ten out of ten for customer service!

Love the gardens and river.

The staff at the Stone Store have been consistently quite standoffish, and of late rude.

Way too much concern over masks after the lockdowns ended. Often standing around chatting to other staff rather than making an effort to talk to customers.

We are locals and would often buy gifts here but have stopped coming in after being barked at by an overly officious and unfriendly staff member.

The Stone Store now houses a shop selling quality goods and gifts. There is a cafe nearby and a nice walk up to the Pa. Great river views and a walk along the river to Rainbow Falls is highly recommended

The Stone Store is gorgeous. A well maintained historic building now serving its purpose as a gift shop. Very little information on the significant history the store holds. Found one small A4 story of an old shop keeper.

The store is the oldest surviving stone building in New Zealand and is well maintained. We found the history very interesting, especially the fact that the local Maori chiefs saw the advantages in trade with the Europeans - they seemed to have some real power in the partnership which is something we did not really see in North America. Well worth a visit.

Stone store, Kemp House, the St James Anglican Church all some of NZ's earliest historic buildings. All well maintained and worth a visit. The river outside is where the sea meets a river so fresh and salt water meet there. All an area that should be visited by NZrs to experience some of our history
