Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lovely campsite, but the powered sites are very small and close to each other. These are described on the campsite map so make sure you read this so you know what to expect. Fantastic location to see kiwis at night, to fish and kayak when the tide is in. Small swimming area constrained by rocks and oysters either side. Toilets a bit ripe in the heat! Hosts were very friendly.

A peaceful and lovely place, we stayed for a week in the larger 3brm house/lodge. We went out every night to spot kiwis and on one night were very lucky to see one very close by for several minutes. On other nights we would always hear them or catch a glimpse.

The downside was that we paid to stay in the 'best' accommodation here, so that we had space for our daughter, my parents, and my husband and I. Although it did have a lovely outlook, it was not private - as it was attached to the office where everyone comes to check in / out / get information. So every time the loud bell would ring (many, many times a day) to notify staff that someone needed attention, it rang through our house too. Wish we'd known this before booking as it's touted as their premium lodge but is probably less nice than the tiny cottages which at least have some of their own space. Also meant daytime sleeps were not great for our daughter because of the loud buzzer going off repeatedly. We knew from the photos the decor was very dated so didn't mind that, although one of the beds was massively concave and saggy.

In any case staff were lovely and the place is worth visiting, just not sure it's worth paying extra for the lodge.

We went in a group of four during them week and enjoyed a peaceful, relaxing time. Lovely walks, plentiful birdlife.
We took both cottages which were separate from the camping ground and office building. This provided a secluded separate area which we enjoyed greatly over two days.

We were here around the end of November. We had a lot of choice as where to park our campervan. Beautiful campsite near the water with a new kitchen with two stoves, a fridge and some pots and pans. Very clean facilities.
There are a lot of birds keeping you company and you can spot kiwi's at night if you're patient. Very nice people who will tell you everything you want to know about kiwi's and nature in the area.
Definitely go there!

It's a really charming campingground one part is surrounded by wood sand the other part ls directly on the seaside. Its a perfect location for kiwi sighting as well.
The owners of this place are just lovely and they will help at any need you have. Definitely come back to that place one day. Btw..the sunrise was just gorgeous!

We stayed here on the fly. We had no intention of staying and stumbled upon this place after being recommended by a local we met. As soon as we got there we asked if we can book the night for camping, which we did. We did not do any of the activities like kiwi watching as we just wanted to relax by the beach and swim. It is quiet, the beach area is stunning and the surrounding bush is beautiful. They have plenty of very clean bathrooms, toilets and cooking equipment. The only thing we regret is not having a SUP, kayak or other water travelling piece of equipment. The beach is the perfect place to jump on a kayak and explore the surrounding islands and we saw people catching plenty of fish on a island close by. We will definitely be staying here again when we come up north only next time we will be bringing a kayak which can only enhance the experience.

We had a quick daytime visit to the park which admittedly isn't the best way to experience all that this place has to offer - if we have had more time would have been amazing to spend an evening and night there.

Nonetheless we had a good walk around the woodland tracks which were really beautiful. Lots of native birdlife in full song. Interesting information centre too.

Narrow road onto the island would not be a great place to meet any opposing traffic. We were in search of a kiwi siting but the tours were all booked up (and they were quite expensive for a night stroll around the island). The staff was helpful but we were disappointed that we were unable to go in search of kiwi (either guided or not).
