Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Well worth popping in for a look.

Great artists have done some amazing crafts with Kauri.

Lots of souvenirs or art and useful things too.

Amazing.

Dropped in today to this quaint shop and was truly amazed at the gorgeous and varied items on display and for purchase. Prices reasonable for the quality of the kauri and excellent craftsman.
Highly recommend a visit to New Zealanders as well as overseas travellers.

Not your usual wooden tourist things to buy but some interesting artifacts and trinkets. Lovely shop and nice lady behind the counter. we really enjoyed looking around and buying one or two things. May be back in the future

After a quick visit to next-door Makana Confections (see my review, "Sweet stop"), we stepped in here. Beautiful bowls, cutting boards, cheese boards, etc., made of native woods such as kauri (hence the shop's name). The nicer items, of course, were moderate to expensive in price, so we were lookers, not buyers.

The one good thing about this place was that it was free entry. Inside were less than helpful staff but a wide range of goods. Not easily affordable for the average traveller. The most disappointing thing was that nobody was actually in the workshop. Lovely crafts but would have been great to see them working the timber. Just a tourist trap really.

We popped in here after the market and found the selection of items fascinating. Well worth a stop to see all the beautiful things made from our native timber.

What beautiful pieces there are here, all on display. How I would love to take some of them home to Australia, but the ones that I really love are far too big for that. However, it is really pleasing to the eye to wander and to take in the artisanship and imagination that allows these pieces to emerge from a piece of wood.
