Ongoing archaeology at the site of James Fort has changed our understanding of the struggles and triumphs of early 1600s life in Virginia. Living history programs and an archaeology museum tell the story of this dramatic rediscovery. The site is jointly administered by the National Park Service and The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation on behalf of Preservation Virginia. « less

Talk about taking you back in time... Seeing where the earliest English settlers arrived in America and lived over 400 years ago was truly fascinating. Taking the short bridge walk from the visitor center is like entering a time machine. After the bridge, a few steps more and you are entering the gates of the Jamestown fortress. The first noticeable... More

They don't try to overwhelm you with re-enactments. No need to watch video's, just enjoy the walk throughs and looking at how the original settlers may have lived. Children loved the forte and village area, the docked ship is a nice touch. No fancy buildings, other than the museum, so it's gives you a chance to look around at your... More

Make sure you take a free tour, it is so informative. The kids can experience how to do the same things the settlers experienced.

This National Part is just down the road from the Jamestown Settlement and is the real site of the settlement. You go from the parking lot to the enterance past the ticket sales and bathrooms across a foot bridge before you even get to the site. The paths are soft and could be a problem for those with a walker... More

Not to be consumed with the James town settlement, the actual site and the ongoing archeological sites are well worth the time

Historic Jamestowne is where it all began.... at least that's what's written in the history books. History is still being written. Run by the National Park Service, this is part of the historic triangle. I would recommend an entire day for Historic Jamestowne and the Jamestown Settlement if you are including that in your plans. The visitor center is welcoming... More

We planned on spending one day at Jamestown during our recent visit. There are so many things to see, that you could easily spend several days enjoying the site. Each member of the staff that we spoke with was friendly and eager to share their information. It is obvious that a great deal of care is spent keeping educational materials... More
