It doesn't take long to see, read and be informed about hospital care for mental illness during the last two centuries. Off the beaten path - located at the entrance of the 2 art museums. Small - easily overlooked with 2 worldclass museums downstairs, but take a few minutes to see this disturbing picture presented by the museum. more

This was the most interesting museum of the three that we went to at Colonial Williamsburg. It was a very small exhibit, but very interesting, and worth seeing. It would probably take 20 minutes maximum to see it all here. more

My wife and I visited this when we were at Colonial Williamsburg. To tour this is to appreciate the history of the the treatment of mental illness. This is on the first floor of the Rockefeller Arts Museum. It's a small exhibit, but worth a look especially if you've already paid for a Colonial pass that gets you into all of the buildings anyway. Several artifcats and a replica of a typical cell from the 1700s. A little eerie, but very informative! more
